In his parable of the weeds and wheat, Jesus tells us what we already know, that evil exists in our world. All we have to do is turn on TV to see evidence of it all around us. I don’t know about you, but sometimes I feel like evil is winning and is choking out the wheat in the field of God’s kingdom.
We know that Jesus pours out his grace on each one of us and even a drop is enough to transform our lives. Why then are there so many weeds on our world. I believe we need to first Identify those weeds in our own personal garden by asking ourselves these questions: Do we want to find those nasty weeds ? Do we want to do the work necessary to uproot them ? Jesus wants to know.
To change our world we first need to change our hearts by doing the little acts of love He desires. We weed our garden by making time for prayer, worshipping him at Mass, helping the poor, reaching out to a friend in need, sharing our faith, and speaking out in defense of life. These may seem like little things, but so is a mustard seed that grows into a large bush. So don’t get discouraged by the evil you see, and never give up. Together with other faithful Catholics we can be a mighty force in choking out the weeds in our world !
