Reflection July 26 th – Matthew 13: 44-52
Today’s gospel tells us of a farm worker and a merchant that both found great treasures. These treasures were their faith. They both went “all-in”. selling everything they had to keep it. This brought them great joy.
In contrast, there was another person, the rich young man, who wanted a deeper faith, but was only willing to do the bare minimum, and wasn’t willing to give up his possessions for that deeper faith. He went away sad.
These parables may leave us wondering who we are in these stories. I have been both in my life. There were times when I wasn’t willing to pay the price for a deeper relationship with Christ, like the rich young man. That life was sad. I now gladly give up some of my worldly
possessions for a deeper relationship with Christ. This life has brought me invincible joy! What are we willing to give up for our faith? Are there things holding us back, or are we willing to go “all-in” for Jesus?
