Reflection July 28 th – Matthew 13: 36-43

Today Jesus tells us about the parable of the weeds in the field of wheat. The weeds are planted by the enemy. They block out the light, leaving good plants in darkness. They rob the good plants of their strength by robbing the soil of its nutrients, and they kill the good plants by
choking them out.

Jesus is talking about the field of our lives. How well are we tending to our field? What are the weeds that the enemy has planted in our fields that leave us in darkness, rob us of our strength, and choke out our faith?

The tactic he uses on a lot of us is keeping us busy. We are so busy that we are not paying attention to our fields where weeds are growing, so busy that we do not have the strength to fight the weeds, and he tries to choke out our voices by a society that silences our Christian values.

I find in my life that when I am feeling distant from God, is exactly when I have been busy, and let the enemy sneak weeds into my field.
