In our gospel today from Luke 1: 26-38, Mary heard some very confusing news from the angel Gabriel – Don’t be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus.”   Mary’s response was “How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?” Nevertheless, she agreed saying “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word”. She never asked for proof, or a deeper explanation, she gave her full Yes!
Sometimes what God leads us to and asks of us it hard to believe. It may be a vocation or a mission we can’t believe he would ask of us. It may be a relationship, it may be a job, it may be a ministry. We may think we are not capable, or not qualified, or not worthy. It is amazing what Jesus can do with broken, reluctant, sinners if they just have the faith of a mustard seed and say “yes”!  The bible is full of these kinds of stories, just look at the Apostles. Jesus has asked me to do many things that I sure didn’t feel worthy or capable of doing! But even though I did not feel capable, qualified or worthy for any of these vocations, I just said yes.
When we are faced with these calls, we need to remember that we can be capable of the mission we are called to through Grace. God doesn’t call the qualified, he qualifies the called. What unbelievable call has God asked of us? What has our response been?
