Today we end the Christmas season with the Baptism of the Lord. We know Jesus was not baptized because of any sin, but rather to show us what to do and to bless the baptismal waters for all of us. I have been at the site of Jesus’ baptism four times and have blessed our pilgrims with water from the Jordan River. Each time I have been aware of the presence of God.

The key for us is to find his awesome presence in our ordinary daily routines. I have to find quiet time for prayer each morning. I then have to move into all the complexities of my job, my family, my relationships, my dealing with the Coronavirus. Even though it’s hard, I need to take his presence into these various aspects of my life.

This is within my reach. It is simply a matter of awareness of his presence which brings a certain peace, a certain purpose and fullness to every part of my day. It’s a wonderful way for us to live !
