God invites us to a very special banquet. Yet we are free to accept that invitation or make excuses as to why we can’t attend. It’s easy to become so consumed with the demands of the world – as the people in today’s gospel were – that we lose sight of the magnificent feast that awaits us in heaven. That’s why Jesus gives us a glimpse of that feast every time we celebrate Mass.
God is good, but he is not naive. The wedding garment mentioned in the Gospel is our soul. The soul that has been purified and is prepared to enter into heaven wears the proper wedding garment. The soul that is full of selfishness and sin is improperly dressed to enter the banquet. The choice is ours. It’s not a matter of God’s mercy but rather the choices we make and the use of our personal freedom. Thru Confession and Eucharist he gives us what we need to keep our wedding garment clean.
Jesus says; “Many are invited, but few are chosen.” God is inviting you today to the banquet feast. Will you accept his invitation? A glorious life awaits all those who keep their wedding garment clean.
St. Joseph, pray for us !
