In our Gospel today, Mark 4:13-20, Jesus tells us the parable of the sower and the seed that falls on different kinds of soil. The different kinds of soil are the path, the rocks, the thorns, and the good soil, which all represent the different responses people have given to Jesus.
I must admit I have been all these types of ground in my life in my response to Jesus. The one I struggled with in my earlier life is the seed sewn among thorns, where worldly anxiety and the lure of riches choked it out.  It was on my Cursillo some 18 years ago when I decided to put God first and stop letting the thorns of the world choke out the seed of Christ growing in me to bear fruit.
This Gospel may cause us to reflect on what kind of soil we have in our lives. Are we the hardened path, the rocks, the thorns or the good soil? Let our prayer be that we keep our soil plowed so we can receive the seed of his word and bear much fruit!
