In our Gospel today, Luke 8:1-3, we hear the story of Jesus traveling with his disciples from town to town preaching and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. Traveling with him were Mary Magdalene, Jonna and Suzanna, who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities.
These women were so grateful for Jesus curing them, that they traveled with Jesus, the disciples and many others, and provided for them out of their resources.
There are two important lessons in today’s Gospel. First, Jesus and the disciples had faith that God would provide for them while they were out on their mission. They were not worried about where they were going to stay or what they would eat. The second is the gratitude of these women for what Jesus had done for them. They spend their resources taking care of Jesus and the Disciples.
This Gospel may cause us to reflect on our lives. Do we have complete trust in Jesus that he will provide for us as his followers? Finally, how aware, and how grateful are we for what he has done for us?
