The apostles ask Jesus to teach them how to pray in today’s Gospel. What a great question for each one of us as well. No matter how or when we pray, I would say we could all use some advice from the Lord regarding our prayer life.
We need to be people of prayer. Whatever is going on in our lives, we need to be able and free to tell him our feelings. We may think our sins upset him, yet he wants us to talk to him about them. Whatever is going on in our lives, God is the one who can heal us. If we can sit with him face-to-face he can reveal again his mercy and love for us.
If we get to the point where this is hard to do, he gives us a solution. He taught us the prayer we call The Lord’s Prayer or Our Father. It takes only a moment to say this prayer, but from time to time we should slow down and meditate on the words! As Peter said; “Lord, you have the words of everlasting life.”
St. Joseph, pray for us !
