When Jesus was asked who will enter the Kingdom of God, he surprised them by his answer. Many Rabbis taught that all of Israel, with a few exceptions, would be saved. After all they were the chosen people of God. Jesus surprised them by saying that being a Jew did not mean automatic entry into God’s Kingdom. He went on to say that many Gentiles from the east and west, from the north and the south would also be admitted. God’s invitation is for all people, Jews and Gentiles alike.
If we wish to enter his kingdom then we must follow Jesus Christ through the “narrow gate”. To do this we must struggle against the forces that are against us. We must resist the temptation to be indifferent or apathetic in our faith. We must hold firm to the love of God for us and the promises of his son, Jesus Christ.
The good news is that we do not struggle alone. God has given us the grace to overcome evil, to resist temptation, and to follow him. The choice is ours. Which gate will you enter, the nice wide easy gate, or the narrow one that leads to everlasting life with our God ? It can be a tough path, but it’s worth it !
St. Joseph, pray for us !
