The Gospel today says that Jesus was moved with pity towards them for “they were like sheep without a shepherd.” He wanted to guide them and teach them and heal them. As you know I often ponder what Jesus did. Today I wonder why he didn’t just say a prayer and heal ALL of them. Instead he sent his apostles out to do his work. 
 
These twelve regular guys wouldn’t just be involved in Jesus’ ministry of teaching and healing, they would be essential to it !  Again I ponder and ask myself; “are you sure, Jesus, that this is a good idea ?  Is this really the best plan ?”  Given the track record of the twelve, Jesus was certainly taking a risk.
 
Well, I have news for you. Jesus is sending you out just as he sent the apostles. He is sending you to bring his message of mercy, healing and forgiveness to those who are lost today. It’s a big job, but he will guide you and give you the words you are to say. The good news is that you don’t have to look hard to find those who are lost. In fact they are all around you !
