In our gospel today, Matthew 11:16-19, Jesus is accused of being a glutton and a drunkard, and hanging out with sinners. Jesus was being judged by people that obviously didn’t understand his mission on earth. What was meant to be an insult, was really an affirmation of that mission. This is why he came to earth, and this is why we celebrate his coming this Christmas.

Eating with people was Jesus’ way of entering into a relationship and fellowship with them.
To society, Jesus hung out with the wrong people, the sinners, but this is what he came to do, to reach the people that needed him the most.

As I reflect on this Gospel, I think about who am I sharing a meal with these days?
Am I only spending time with my family and friends, or am I spending time with those who are far away from God, and need to hear his message the most?
