Today’s Gospel is the story of the man who had two sons. One said yes but didn’t go into the vineyard. The other said no but eventually decided to go. My first thought is that actions speak louder than words.

We need to understand the “yes” we make with our Lord. If we were baptized as a child, our parents said “yes” to bringing us up in the practice of the faith. We did the same when our kids were baptized. This is an important commitment we made with God. Did we follow through on that vow ? Even though our parents made that commitment for us at baptism, we need to renew that commitment again and again in the course of our life. My decision to follow the Lord must be affirmed and renewed many times over.

Also during this Advent season let us think about Mary’s “yes” to God. Although she initially said “yes” to the angel, she too must have consciously renewed that decision as her life unfolded. How am I doing with my “yes”, with my commitment to the Lord ?
