In our gospel today, Luke 1:39-56, Mary traveled far away to visit her cousin Elizabeth.  When Elizabeth heard Mary’s voice, the infant leaped in her womb.
We know this infant to later be known as John the Baptist, who went ahead to prepare a place for Jesus.

What both Mary and Elizabeth had in common was that they were both unexpectedly pregnant, as Elizabeth was elderly, and they both would be mothers to sons who would play a big role in advancing God’s kingdom.

John, as an infant, leapt with joy that Jesus was near. He also had great humility as an adult, as he felt he was not worthy to tie Jesus’ sandals. Do we feel great joy and humility when Jesus is near?
Do we leap with joy when we go to Mass and receive Jesus in the Eucharist?
When is the last time we have leapt with joy in his presence?
