When Jesus began his public ministry, he eventually returned to his hometown for a visit. On the Sabbath he entered the Synagogue and read from the prophet Isaiah. The hometown people were impressed by the words he spoke. However the more they listened, the more he seemed to suggest that he was specifically chosen by God. He even insinuated that he was the long-awaited Messiah.

They said to each other, “who does he think he is? He’s Joseph’s son. He is one of us. We watched him grow up.” It happens all the time that people put us in a box. They see us the way we used to be, no matter how much we’ve changed.

God never puts us in a box. God always knows my “Dougness” and the potential of what I can become. God never holds on to my past sins. It’s one of the great things about God that he can let go of my past. He knows what I can become and he will not only let me reach my potential, but he will help me do
it !

Happy New Year and Merry Christmas !
