Today’s reading from Acts 6 describes the selection of the first seven deacons. It’s interesting to note that the apostles placed the responsibility for finding the first deacons on the community. They were asked to select from among their community seven reputable men. I think the message is that we all need to be on the lookout for future leaders of our church also.
In Cursillo we have a simple but effective formula which is: “ Make a friend, be a friend, and bring that friend to Christ!” Jewish priests and Levites were born into their positions of authority. In our church lay people are called from the community to be those future leaders. We need to be on the lookout for those leaders.
So let us pray that God will reveal to us spiritual men and women. Let us have the courage to lead them to a closer union with Christ. That may include sponsoring them to a future Cursillo. The future leaders of our church are out there. Are we actively looking for them ? Remember they me be close at hand, perhaps our own children.
