Today, Holy Thursday is an incredible day packed with so many things to ponder. A few examples:
Jesus celebrated Passover with his apostles.
Jesus washed their feet.
Jesus instituted the Eucharist.
Jesus instituted the priesthood.
Jesus gave Peter primacy over his church.
Jesus gave us a new commandment to love one another.
Jesus is betrayed by Judas.
Jesus prays in the garden while the apostles sleep.
Peter cuts off the High Priest’s servant’s ear.
Peter denied Jesus three times in the courtyard.
Jesus is scourged and condemned to die.
On this night, knowing that he was returning to the Father, he gave us his own Body and Blood in the Eucharist. He held nothing back, and he loved us to the end.
How do I respond ? Am I like Peter and deny him in the courtyards of my life? Sometimes with my neighbors, my co-workers, my family I hedge and don’t always live up to what I believe. Now is the time to stand up for him. Now is the time to stand up for my faith !
