In our Gospel today from John 10:1-10, Jesus is talking about sheep and says, “A thief comes only to steal and slaughter and destroy; I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly.”
Jesus was referring to the Jewish religious authorities as thieves, who’s rule was all about themselves rather than about others. They were living abundantly by fleecing their flock, not feeding them. Jesus on the other hand, offered everything, including his life for his flock, so they could live abundantly.
So many people today are only seeking worldly abundance that is temporary and fleeting. The abundance Jesus offers is eternal, and no amount of worldly abundance can ever compare to the joy of living for Christ. Let us choose the better way.
