We live in a business culture where managers are expected to have more earnings this quarter than for the same quarter last year. If we made money, it is supposed to be invested so it can grow. This is part of the Capitalistic culture we live in and there’s nothing with all of that. The problem is when we get caught up on that expectation of what life should be. Jesus gives us a different perspective of life.
Jesus talked about life as being a process of forming good seed. He talked about dying to ones old ways of life in order to rise to a great harvest after death. He talked about a treasure waiting for us AFTER we die. This gives us a different perspective on what I should be doing with my life right now. It should cause us to reflect on how I would like to spend the years I have left before I die.
When I pray the Our Father slowly, I have a simple and good perspective on life. It is God’s kingdom that I’m trying to bring about. It is God’s will that I’m trying to do. I am asking for my daily bread and not a million dollars. When Deacon St. Lawrence was ordered by the Roman Emperor to bring him the church’s treasure, he brought all the poor people he could find. He said this is the church’s treasure !
Where do you find your treasure ?
St. Joseph, pray for us !
