Catholic life is filled with many peaks and valleys. The church’s soul is the Holy Spirit, but the body’s members can be less than saintly. At times, people are scandalized by the humanity of the church. However we can’t be surprised when we encounter sin, because Jesus came to save sinners. He wasn’t surprised by sin. We can’t be surprised even when that sin is under our own roof. We know that God is infinitely more powerful than our sinfulness.
So here’s a question I need to ask myself. Is my life moving towards God, away from God, or am I more or less just drifting about. Sometimes life is so hectic we only think about various pieces of our life such as my job, my family, my problems, my health. I never take time to think about my life as a whole. What is the fundamental direction of my life ? For sure it’s moving somewhere, intentionally or unintentionally.
We can’t let our sins move us in the wrong direction. Today Jesus gives us the answer to help us point our lives toward God. He tells us to pray and to get others to pray with us. “Where two or three are gathered in my name …….” As Catholics we believe that through prayer miracles happen. Sometimes it seems that only a miracle will bring about reconciliation in my life. Miracles will only come to those who ask for them ! So ask …!
St. Joseph, pray for us !
