For many years I have had Football season tickets to the San Diego (now Los Angeles) Chargers.  As a child my grandfather was a season ticket holder for Notre Dame Football and would take me to home games. Later when I was at  Purdue, I never missed a home game. As you can tell, I have always loved the sport of football and the excitement of being present at the game.

Years ago I did a retreat and talked about how excited we get at things such as sporting events, music concerts and the like.  In my talk I asked the participants, if we get this excited for a sports teams or music star, why don’t we get that excited for Jesus?  If you get excited cheering for you team, think about what it will be like cheering for the Lord, surrounded by all the saints.

Well that’s what’s going on in heaven right now.  When we pray here on earth we join our voices with all the heavenly host of angels and saints.  We are joining the great crowd of men and women in worship, and they are lifting up our prayers as well.

DeColores, Deacon Doug
