In the parable in today’s Gospel, Jesus is talking about the last judgement and how we will be accountable for how we use everything God gave us. We all have different gifts and talents. The question is; how well did we use the talents and possessions we were given?
But there is a prior truth that lies at the core of this, and the truth is that everything I have belongs to God. This is clear in the parable. The master entrusted his servants with his money, and they were to use it – not bury it or hoard it – on his behalf to the best of their ability.
Everything I have – my money, my possessions, my abilities, my time, my talent, my opportunities – all belong to God. They are given to me so that I can use them well on God’s behalf. In our society, this is a radical belief ! Pray that God will help us use our gifts well today !
