Everyone is called upon to be a shepherd to this earth and to all the people in it. Our planet earth is no “rental “. The people living on this earth are no strangers. They are my brothers and sisters. This earth is God’s as is all who dwell in it. And I, like God whose spirit is within me, are to care of this earth and all its people. That means to care for our home planet by not polluting it or wasting its resources. It also means caring for the people who live here.

The Knights of Columbus in our parish are trying to do both. Monthly they have a drive-up recycling station open to anyone in our community. Daily we feed the poor at either our parish or by working at various shelters. Yet we are doing nothing more than what God expects of us. He wants us to love and care for all who share this place we call earth.

I have been given the gift of life and placed here to continue God’s shepherding work. I am part of this wonderful creation. A shepherd loves his sheep. If I look at this earth with a shepherd’s eye, it may look differently to me, and hopefully I will act differently. I will begin to act like the shepherd I’m expected to be !

St. Joseph, pray for us !
