Imagine the agony of the mother in today’s gospel whose daughter was tormented by demons. Imagine the near physical pain she felt in her heart, the kind of pain that only a mother’s love can feel. This mother’s love also gave her the courage and strength to seek out the one person she believed could heal her daughter.
Only a mother or father can understand the depth of love for a child. We can understand then how Mary must have felt at the passion and death of her son. Now imagine your own son or daughter suffering the same fate as Jesus. When we do that, Jesus’ passion and death take on a whole new dimension. We can then get a glimpse of the depth of how incredibly much he loves us. We can also understand the pain in his heart when we are tormented because of sin.
Today ask Jesus to give you a glimpse of how much he loves you and values you. I heard in a homily one time that Jesus loves you so much, he has your picture on his refrigerator !! As a grandfather I know that’s a lot of love !!
