Luke’s account of the Annunciation is one of the Gospel’s most familiar passages. It is read on a number of major feasts and Sundays. Luke’s portrayal of the Annunciation is carefully crafted to make clear that what is about to take place in the birth of Jesus is totally God’s work. Mary wonders how this miraculous event can come about.
Mary eventually catches on. Later on in the Magnificat she prays, “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord ….. for he has looked upon his handmaid’s lowliness ….. the Mighty One had done great things for me.”
This refers to my life also. Make no mistake about it. What good I do is not my own work, but rather I’m doing the work of the Lord.
Something to ponder this last week before Christmas !!
