When Mary and Joseph presented their child to the Lord as prescribed by the Jewish Law, they encountered Simeon and Anna. Luke’s Gospel says the Holy Spirit was upon Simeon. The Spirit allowed both of them to perceive that this baby Jesus was the Christ.
We have received the Spirit in Baptism and later in Confirmation. Thus the Spirit lives within us. Do we allow the Spirit to work in our lives ? Do we allow the Spirit to help us hear the voice of Jesus in our prayer and in our daily
tasks ?
We are about to end another year. I don’t know if you would say that 2021 was a good year or a bad year. One thing we can say for certain was that God’s love for us did not change one bit this past year. This new year will surely have its share of joys and trials. No matter, the one constant will be God’s love and the Holy Spirit there to guide us. The Spirit will help us discern the Lord’s presence as he did for Simeon and Anna. Jesus is the light of the world and he will certainly be with you !
Merry Christmas, DeColores, Deacon Doug
