Happy Immaculate Conception !
I often ponder whether Mary, before the angel Gabriel spoke to her, had a sense that she was specially blessed by God. The Church teaches that Mary was free from sin from the very moment of her conception, she was “full of grace”, and she remained sinless throughout her life. I wonder if she had a sense of this ?
And what about us ? Do I have a sense that God has been specially at work within me ? After all, I was baptized and confirmed. God cleansed me of sin and poured the Holy Spirit within me. I have received Jesus over and over again in the Eucharist. Those are very special works of God in me.
Mary was indeed a “very special” person. But guess what, I am special
too ! God has given me “special” gifts through his Sacraments. I have been specially blessed by God, but perhaps I have a hard time believing it. This advent I need to believe it, and more importantly, I need to live it !!
