Jesus is trying to explain to the apostles about his suffering and death. They do not want to hear all this talk about dying. He tells them they are not thinking as God does, but as human beings do.
The same is true for us. But Jesus is talking about a different kind of dying for us. He is talking about a dying to self. He teaches that I should not focus on inward, but outward actions. My life was not meant to be characterized by acquiring, hoarding or giving in to self gratification. I was made to give, share, and focus on others.
He tells us that we need to “die” to one way of life (inward), and rise to a different way of life (outward) by helping others. It’s the only way we will be truly happy. And if I live this kind of life, I will inherit more life than ever before. More than I ever dreamed possible. So let us try to think not as humans think, but think as God does !
