Jesus went up the mountain with Peter, James and John and was transfigured in their midst. The gospel says they were terrified but got to witness the glory of God himself. They were spiritually awakened to his transforming power.
The question for us today is, are we spiritually awake? Many things in this world can keep us from seeing his glory. For example, sorrow can block our vision until we are able to see beyond it. Prejudice can make us blind to something new the Lord may have for us. Life’s material pleasures can keep us from seeking him fully.
Peter, James and John were privileged to witness the glory of God. We too are called to be witnesses of his glory. Let us pray that this world’s distraction not keep us from seeing his glory. Let us stay awake to his word, his action, and his daily presence in our lives. He told the apostles not to tell anyone what they have seen. Today he tells us to tell EVERYONE to be awaken to his glory!
