Our gospel today Mark 9: 14-29, a man has a son, who is possessed by an evil spirit. After the disciples cannot heal him, the man brings his son to Jesus. The father says to Jesus, “If you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us”.
Jesus replies with a question “If you can?” Then he states, “everything is possible to one who has faith”. The father quickly cries out “I do believe, help my unbelief”. Jesus calls the spirit out of the son and cures him.
What can we learn from today’s Gospel? Are we like this father and are unsure of Jesus’ power and ask “if you can?” Or do we have the faith and conviction to ask God directly, knowing he has the power to do anything?
