Simeon was a devote Jew who loved God and ardently awaited the Messiah. He studied the Scriptures and prayed constantly in the Temple to see the fulfillment of God’s promise. He was a man who yearned to see the face of God. Because of his love and faithfulness, God gave him the privilege of being able to recognize Jesus when his parents brought him to the Temple that day.

Perhaps it was Simeon’s practice of lovingly speaking to God that enabled him to receive clear guidance from the Holy Spirit. All that time praying helped Simeon open his heart to the Spirit and recognize the Spirit’s voice, which led him directly to Jesus.

Yet the same is true for us. Every time we reflect upon God’s promise in the Scriptures, every time we look for him in prayer, every time we celebrate Mass, we have the opportunity to speak to Jesus with great love. No matter how much sin has clouded our hearts, Jesus will come and reveal himself to us as he did to Simeon. This is what happens when we speak to Jesus “with love.”

St.Joseph, pray for us !
