Today is the anniversary of the passing of Deacon Gaston Turcotte. May he Rest In Peace !! 
Jesus tells his apostles to travel light. No food, no sack, no money in their belt and no second tunic. He tells them this not because these things are evil, but because they can become a distraction. He tells us the reason for traveling light is for us to enjoy the things of this earth.
First, the accumulation of things can get in the way of my relationship with people. Things are important, but people are always MORE important.
Second, my concern for things can bog me down. My time and energy are consumed in acquiring or maintaining the “stuff “ I’ve collected, such as my car, my boat, my large house.
I was created by God to grow and be a “traveler “ on this great adventure of life. The more “stuff” I pile up, the less I’m able to move in that direction. I become less of a “traveler “ and more of a “tourist”. Jesus wants his apostles (and us) to be “travelers” !
