Today Jesus and the Apostles are in a boat on the Sea of Galilee when a violent storm comes up. The apostles are very much afraid. Jesus says to them, “Why are you terrified ? Do you not yet have faith?”

Why was it that those close to Jesus had difficulty with him ? Perhaps because they had seen him grow up and he seemed like one of them. He led a normal life with Mary and Joseph. Who was he to begin saying and doing these things they had witnessed?

The same thing can happen to us. Sometime we are most misunderstood by those closest to us and not the “enemies of our faith”. Often what we say and do is not understood by our families and friends. Often when we return from a weekend like Cursillo, people think we are weird. For me, the friends I had before Cursillo are not the friends I have today.

The problem is that a “normal” life for a follower of Christ is not always what others consider normal. At Baptism, I symbolically die to one way of living and rise to a new and different way of life. If we are Baptized as an infant, that realization usually comes about later in life following a change of heart such as through Cursillo. For us that new way of life is Jesus Christ !
