All Jesus needs is a small ember of faith to change a person’s life.  For instance, we cannot force another person to love us of trust us.  Neither does God.   Likewise God respects the very freedom he entrusted to us. Still our God also gives the human person a searching mind and heart.
That is why we can say the human person is religious by nature from the beginning.  Atheists are not born, they are made by the choices they make.

Within the human soul God has placed the kindling for faith, hope, and love.  Hopefully once we are baptized that kindling can become an unquenchable fire.  But it can also be extinguished if we are careless with these gifts and fail to use them in the service of others.

No matter how far we may think we have drifted, if we turn back to Jesus he is there waiting for us.  How comforting that Jesus does not reject us in our brokenness or abandon us because of our weak faith.   He is always there ready to heal our wounds and strengthen our faith. Let us open our hearts to Him !
