In the parable of the sower, Jesus tells us about the way he gives out his gifts, particularly the gift of the Word of God. Jesus tells us that in each one of us there is some rocky ground and some thorns. But he also knows that within us there is some good soil. And where he sows, he sows lavishly.
The seed of the Word of God falls upon me and when it finds good soil it grows into a kingdom of peace, justice, truth, and love. A kingdom where all people and all creation can come together. So let us try very hard not to let the seed of the Word of God bounce off my life, like seed hitting the sidewalk. Try not to let the concerns in my life choke it out, as can happen when I am trying to focus on too many things. Try very hard not to let the Word of God become superficial as I might when reading a newspaper article. Rather let it sink in and take root in my life.
If we can really do that, the Word of God will work wonders within me and you !
