Jesus’ healing of the mute man today in the gospel reminds us that we are all tongue-tied by the devil in some way. The way Jesus loosens the tongue of the mute is by expelling the demons from him. If the devil controls our tongues, he controls our bodies as well.

Yet the Holy Spirit is poured out to us to free our tongues to pray to our God and give him praise and worship. Our sword against the evil one is the Holy Spirit. He loosens our tongue so that we can speak freely to others about our God. We live in a world that does not want to hear about our God. No matter how difficult, we cannot allow the world to silence our tongues.

Jesus tells us not to be afraid, just have faith. He needs us, because the harvest is abundant but the laborers are few. He tells us to pray for more laborers for the harvest. So don’t give up or be silent. Have faith in him even when things seem impossible. We know he will come through in the end.

St. Joseph, pray for us !
