In today’s Gospel of Matthew 10:7-15, Jesus sends out his apostles to cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers and drive out demons. He also tells them not to take any money, clothes, or sandals for the journey.
Jesus told them this so they were not focused on taking care of themselves, but rather, they would have total reliance on Jesus. He didn’t want them distracted by worldly things, because he had a critical mission for them, which was to be totally focused on helping others.
How are we living our lives? Are we so focused on our own care that we lose sight of the critical mission Christ has for us? Or do we trust that Jesus will give us, not necessarily what we want, but what we need to be his apostles?
