At the time of Jesus, the Jews had hundreds of laws. As we hear today, Jesus had two. Love God with all our being and love our neighbor as ourselves. In fact Jesus goes beyond a one-step response to the Scribes and links the love of God with our love of neighbor.
Jesus wants us to be his arms, legs, and voice in this world. Therefore being a Christian is more than just loving God. We must love our neighbor and be a leaven in our world. As such we may need to be more involved in our parish and in some sort of charity outreach. Everything we do must grow from this love of neighbor.
So what does God require of us ? Simply that we love as Jesus loves! Everything God does flows from his incredible love for us. Therefore everything that we do should flow from our incredible love for him. Our love of God comes first and everything we do flows from and is grounded in this love. For me the hardest part of this pandemic is not being able to cook or help at Isaiah House. Yet I have found many other ways to serve. So the question today is this; do we truly know the love that conquers all ? Does this love guide us in all we do ?
