Today I drove back to California from spending two weeks in Arizona with my grand daughters.  I was thinking as I loaded the car that Jesus told his apostles to travel light.  It sounded good at the time.  The reason for traveling light is not because things are evil, but life is too short for excess baggage.  It’s also not because I’m suppose to have some sort of pious discomfort with material things.  I’m actually called upon to use and enjoy the things of this earth.

So why travel light ?

First, accumulating things can get in the way of my relationship with people.  Things are important, But people and relationships are MORE important.  Second, concern for things can bog me down.  My time and energy can be consumed with maintaining my “stuff”.

I was created by God to grow, to love, to journey on this great adventure of life.  The more things I pile up, the less I am able to move in the direction he is calling me to follow. The less I become a traveler, and the more I become a tourist !!
