In today’s Gospel, Matthew 7:7-12, Jesus says ““Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”
Jesus is not talking about asking, seeking, and knocking in general, he is talking about these things in our relationship with God. He is urging them to follow him and ask, seek and knock continually. To be his disciple requires initiative and perseverance. To be continually asking for the things that will bring us closer to him.
So today let us reflect on, what are we asking from God? What is it that we are truly seeking? Are they only things that will make our lives better and easier, or are they more important things that will bring us closer to him? How has God answered when I truly ask, seek and knock for a deeper relationship with him?
