At the last supper Jesus says that we are to love one another as HE LOVED US. This is not a philosophical statement. This is not simply a statement that helps the community and ourselves to be more at peace. This statement is not abstract. What we have here is something very real because we know how much Jesus loves us.

This is Jesus who would shortly be on his knees washing the feet of his apostles. This is Jesus who forgave his executioners while they were killing him. This is Jesus who offered forgiveness to the thief on the cross next to him. This is Jesus who loves sinners. This is Jesus who was accused of reckless mercy. This is Jesus who reached out to Gentiles and Samaritans. This is Jesus who described that love in every parable story. This is Jesus who caused the Roman Centurion to have faith in God.

This love is astonishing ! I don’t know that I realize just how remarkably different HIS kind of love really is. And yet Jesus asks no less of me !

St. Joseph, pray for us !
