In our Gospel today from John 15:9-17, Jesus says, “It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you”.
Jesus reminds us that before we ever made a decision to follow him and advance his kingdom, he chose us long before. We heard this on our Cursillo weekend. We may think it was us who decided to come, but it was really God preparing us long before that weekend so we could go forth and bear fruit for him. Jesus is also reminding us of another thing we learned, that through Grace and the Holy Spirit, we can have confidence that God will give us what we need to succeed in his name.
So today let us reflect on when we first became aware that God chose us before we chose him.
What have we asked in his name that he has fulfilled way beyond our imagination?
Do we live our lives like we were chosen, and step out in courage knowing God will give us everything we need to do his will?
