In our gospel today, Jesus was teaching in the temple and saw people putting their offerings in the treasury. He noticed a poor widow giving two small coins, and commented that she had given more than all the rest.

Jesus was not counting the total amount of money each person gave, but he counted what percent of their money they gave. The others gave from their surplus, where it didn’t hurt. The poor widow gave everything. Even though poor, the widow was thankful to God, and gave all she had, trusting God would provide for her.

This Gospel makes me reflect – Am I just giving to God from my surplus, holding back from God and only giving him my leftovers, or do I have the faith to put my entire life in his hands like this widow?
