Happy Advent everyone. Advent is an often overlooked but important season in our church’s liturgical year. It is a time when we prepare to encounter Jesus as he enters our humanity. Often times, we get so wrapped up with Christmas preparations, we don’t prepare adequately for this encounter. I use the term encounter, because every encounter with Jesus should deepen our faith a little more.
For me, I first encountered him when I was in Catholic elementary school. Every time I served Mass, especially during the Christmas season, I felt ever more drawn to him. I lost this feeling in college and as I began my work career. However I encountered him in a very powerful way when I lived my Cursillo nearly 48 years ago.
So let us resolve to encounter him this advent in our busyness. Every relationship begins with an encounter. Every time you call upon him, go to Mass, spend time in Adoration, or read the Bible, Jesus is there waiting for you. The more you open yourself up to his love, the more he will change you. So make the time this advent to encounter Jesus. He is calling your
name !!
