STAY AWAKE ! !
Did I get your attention ? Jesus today is also trying to get our attention with the parable he tells. Even Peter asks him if this parable was meant for us or for everyone. Although we may tell ourselves that we are vigilant, it’s easy to get complacent. It’s easy to fall into the same trap as the servant in our story. No one knew when the master was coming back, so they started to drink and party.

For us, because we cannot see God, sometimes it’s easy to forget about him. Worldly affairs around us gobble up our attention leaving less time for God. We may think we have lots of time before he comes again, but this is an excuse for being lazy. We may find ourselves face-to-face with Jesus sooner than we think. That is why he asks us to stay vigilant.

We have been given a great treasure that he expects us to protect. That treasure is the gift of salvation he has won for us by dying on the cross. He expects us to be vigilant and to protect this gift in our present life. But we can loose this treasure if we do not hold fast to his teaching and laws. He loves us and we have been entrusted with much, just as the servant in today’s parable. He says, “Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more.”

St. Joseph, pray for us !
