Jesus uses two parables today to try to teach us about the kingdom of heaven. First he uses the example of the mustard seed. Although it’s so small that it’s nearly invisible, it can grow into a tree large enough for birds to come and make a nest in it.
In the second parable of the leaven, something similar happens. Even a small amount mixed with dough causes the dough to rise.
Jesus uses these two stories to describe the potential for growth in the kingdom of God. We see this in the world today. The church has not only grown, but it has affected so many lives and even transformed our society. When we yield our lives to Jesus Christ, we will be transformed as well. Even the smallest effort on our part, God can use to do amazing things.
Think about how powerful 15 minutes a day of prayer can be. How about 30 minutes in adoration before the Blessed Sacrament ? What if we spend one hour having lunch with a friend to find out what’s going on in their life ? That’s why one hour a week “grouping “ is so transforming.
God can take any mustard seed sized effort that you put into growing your faith and turn it into something amazing and beautiful. Try being that leaven in your world !
St. Joseph, pray for us !
