Thank you everyone for all the birthday wishes yesterday for my 77th celebration of birth !
Whenever Jesus came south to Judea, he loved to visit the home of Lazarus, Martha and Mary. He especially loved the gracious hospitality of the two sisters. In our Gospel today we see that these two sisters had very different personalities and temperaments. Martha loved to serve but was anxious that everything was just perfect. Mary, in her simple trusting manner, preferred to just sit and listen attentively to Jesus. This caused even more anxiety for Martha.
Like Martha, does anxiety and preoccupation keep us from listening to Jesus and keep us from giving him our undivided attention. Are we able to put aside our distractions and busyness and follow him with all of our heart? It’s not easy in the busy fast paced world we live in today. My busyness usually comes from doing His work as a Deacon. While I like to think I’m doing the right thing, often it too, gets in the way of really hearing his voice.
Today let us pray that the Lord frees us from our preoccupations and needless concerns, so that we may give him our undivided love and attention !
St. Joseph, pray for us !
