Can you imagine how Martha felt when she asked for help and was told her sister Mary had chosen the better part ? Can you imagine the dialogue between the two sisters once everybody including Jesus had left ? While hosting is very important, Jesus wanted both of them to hear the word of God with the other disciples just as he wants for us. He wanted them to be encouraged in the “food” of his word.
The Christian life is a balancing act between listening with openness to God, and doing Christian activities. The more time we spend listening to him, the more joyful and fruitful our acts of service become.
Take time each day to sit quietly and listen to Jesus as he speaks to your heart. Then make time to be involved in the church’s mission of reaching out to those in need. Study what the church is teaching us and be people of prayer. In Cursillo we call this PSA, piety, study and action. Find the support for your Christian walk by being in a group of like-minded friends. Encourage one another just as Jesus did with those who listened to him.
