Like the disciples, so many times we are looking to be the greatest. In fact our society tells us that it’s important for us to be on top. It also says we should do whatever is necessary to achieve being on top. That’s how we achieve greatness.
 
Jesus however gives us a different message today. He say the the secret to success with God is this. “If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.” This is a big contradiction to the ways of the world. Jesus came to serve and not be served. The climax of his service was his death on the cross for our salvation. The Gospel teaches us that we must humble ourselves like Jesus in order to achieve true greatness.
 
He placed a child in their midst and invites them to humble themselves and become like this child. Success in the spiritual life begins with our childlike trust in God. In the same way, we too must become childlike before God. 
 
Jesus, I trust in you !
