Most of us are very familiar with the parable of the sower and the seeds. Some seeds fell on good ground and produced much fruit, and others fell on rocky ground or a foot path where they withered and died. I would say within us there are a wide variety of soil and not just one type.
Sometimes I am like the good ground. I hear the word of God and try to follow it to bear fruit for him. Other times my heart is hardened and I just let his message bounce off me like a rocky surface. From one day to the next, we might identify with each type of soil Jesus is describing.
We all want to respond to God’s word in a fruitful way, but it doesn’t always happen due to our preoccupation with many things. It’s good to know however that our Heavenly Father never quits. He is always sowing seeds in our lives. He never tires of inviting us to bear fruit for his kingdom !
